Contingency Awards Program

Dear SMX racers,

We have aggregated all the info on the contingency awards offered for the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series presented by Toyo Tires races + regular season championships + overall championship AS WELL AS Spec MX-5 payouts for NASA ST5 and SCCA STL races in a Spec MX-5 race car. There is not a program with more contingency awards on offer.

Mazda Motorsports pays Mazda “cash,” PAGID pads (specify fronts or rears when collecting), and even Toyo cash at the three SCCA regional events in which the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series competes; NASA pays Toyo cash; SCCA pays Toyo cash; Toyo pays Toyo Bucks through a NASA portal (for NASA events) and another portal for SCCA events.

Mazda Motorsports’ Payouts (regardless of sanctioning body)

For all Spec MX-5 Challenge Series races:

  • Regular season race payouts found on page 20 here – submit these claims to Mazda
    • $ via Rewards Card
    • PAGID brake pad set (fronts or rears) for Masters’ race winners – distributed by Mazda (submit claim to Mazda)
    • Tow fund for racers towing 500+ miles, one way, to compete at Utah
    • Tow fund for racers outside California towing to Laguna Seca, Sonoma or Portland SMX events
    • Championship admin fee subsidy: Paid by Mazda to Spec MX-5 Challenge, LLC on drivers behalves (no paperwork to submit)
  • Regular season point championship payouts are found on page 19 here
  • National Championship payouts (points combined from regular season + championship event to be held at COTA) are found on page 19 here

For all SCCA Majors or Super Tour events, for regional point championships, and for the Runoffs, Mazda offers contingency for STL (among other classes), in which the Spec MX-5 race car competes; go to pages 11-14 here for payout info.

For NASA regional point championships and the NASA championships, Mazda offers contingency for the ST5 class (among other classes), in which the Spec MX-5 race car competes; go to pages 15-17 here for payout info.

NASA Events

The Spec MX-5 Challenge Series races may be held during a NASA regional weekend.

  • Follow the Spec-MX5 Decal Placement Guidelines for your vehicle
  • Complete the yearly Toyo Tires Contingency Registration Form.
  • Cash payouts: To claim the payout for Spec MX-5 Challenge Series races, submit your information online here; NASA will pay racers on behalf of Toyo Tires
  • To claim Toyo Bucks earned during NASA weekends for both the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series races as well as NASA ST5 races, submit via the NASA Toyo Bucks redemption portal.
  • For all NASA contingency offerings, click here; for Toyo-specific, click here
  • Racers have 30 days after a race event to submit for Toyo contingency through NASA
  • For any issues or questions with the SMX Contingency at NASA events, please create a support ticket to NASA National Office here

SCCA Events

The Spec MX-5 Challenge Series races may be held during an SCCA regional or Majors/Super Tour weekend.

  • If a regional weekend on which Spec MX-5 Challenge Series competes, go here to see Toyo Bucks payouts (includes STL)
    • Spec MX-5 Challenge race weekends held on SCCA regional weekends offers Toyo bucks for the spec races as well as for those STL regional races.
    • Mazda, on behalf of Toyo, will pay the racers the Toyo cash earned for these three SCCA regional events. Mazda, therefore, would pay Mazda’s “cash” payout + Toyo’s cash payout for the three SCCA regional events as SCCA is unable to pay its regional racers cash from Toyo.   • If a Majors or Super Tour weekend
