AUSTIN, November 18, 2021 – Today Spec MX-5 Challenge presented by Toyo Tires and its partners at Mazda Motorsports announce the highly anticipated 2022 race schedule. The schedule reflects the series’ ever-growing effort to provide a space for racer development and experienced competitors alike. The regular season will begin March 12, 2022 and run through August, culminating with a championship event later in the year
“There are a lot of changes coming next season. As we work with our racers and partners, we want to make sure our schedule is engaging,” said Series Manager Anna Osburn. “We feel we’ve developed something really special.”

There are a variety of pro-track additions next season including Portland International Raceway and Daytona International Speedway. These were added with the intention of letting up-and-coming racers learn the tracks they may be racing in their professional careers.
Racers will count their best seven races within their respective regions to determine the regular season champions for each of the four regions. The national series champion will earn a $15,000 scholarship from Mazda, and the North, South and West region champions each will earn a $10,000 scholarship from Mazda. Along the way, the racers will earn the largest per-race payouts available for a series in club racing. And for those who participate in the championship event, which is TBA, after the regular season concludes, an additional $65,000 is on offer from the partners with a $30,000 scholarship going to the overall champion, $20,000 scholarship to second place, $10,000 to third place, and $5,000 to the Master’s champion (45 years or older).

Spec MX-5 Challenge: Is THE Driver Development Series for amateur racing. The third generation MX-5., coming just after the Spec Miata and prior to the MX-5 Cup cars, Spec MX-5 Challenge offers a variety of competitions to appeal to diverse needs and to support driver development from karters to novices to masters to pros. Spec MX-5 Challenge also offers a National Championship with $65,000 in prize money.
