Southeast and Northeast regional racers brought the speed and sound this past Independence Day, making their mark on North America’s most iconic track. In the second crossover event of the season Spec MX-5 Challenge series racers looked to make their mark and boy, did they deliver.

After qualifying on pole for the first race, Piscittell, beat competitor, Matt Fassnacht, by only 0.120 seconds, the closest victory of the season. For reference, the nearest SMX racer finished 13.184 seconds behind them. Both racers held a healthy lead over the rest of the field.

Piscittell attempted to carry the momentum to qualifying for race two but came up short to Fassnacht whose top lap time was a 2:31.602.  By race time, Piscittell found his speed once more, securing the win over Fassnacht who finished second.

As it stands Piscittell leads the Southeast Region Championship with 390 points to Fassnacht’s 364.

We will see both drivers back on-track this weekend at Road America.
