Tonight’s event at COTA wraps up the virtual racing competition for the Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge series. After almost 5 months of competition, the top-25 drivers from the 8-round regular season will compete for the awesome opportunity to drive an actual NC Spec MX-5 racecar!
Once decided, the series’ overall champion will choose between an HPDE in a Spec MX-5 Challenge car with support from Winding Road Racing, and a competition licensing school program courtesy of the good people at LevelUp Racing School in one of their Spec MX-5 school race cars. The runner-up driver will enjoy an HPDE entry for one of the Sports Car Drivers Association‘s many track days in 2021.
Just like the real-world Challenge series, tonight’s race is a standalone event and each driver will go into the event with ‘carry-over’ points based on their standings in the 8-round regular season. While any one of the top-10 driver’s are on for a win, the points re-shuffle has only a 2-point gap between all the drivers, adding yet another level of excitement and a possible upset if one of the top driver’s has a bad night.
If you only catch one Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge event, make it tonight’s season ender at COTA. We’re livestreaming to the Winding Road Magazine’s YouTube channel as well on the Spec MX-5 Challenge Facebook site from 8:00 PM (EST) with qualifying, immediately followed by two 20-minute sprint races.
