SimRacing Challenge Competition Heats Up for Round 2 at Summit Point

With Round 1 of the Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge in the books, Round 2 takes us to an east-coast track with some deep roots in sportscar racing history – Summit Point Motorsports Park.  Since hosting their first events in 1969, Summit Point has operated as the mid-Atlantic home for professional and amateur road racing in the greater Washington DC and surrounding areas for 50 years.

Last month, 40 very motivated sim-racers took the grid for the opening round at VIR and after two exciting and close finishes, it was Robert Hartley from South Carolina and Ohian DJ Alessandrini that walked away with the laurel wreaths. DJ currently leads the series championship by a scant 4 points over Robert and the UK’s Jake Hewlett who are tied for 2nd place.

round2aWith something to prove, the remainder of the field are anxious and ready to do it again on Wednesday 3.27.19 at 08:20 PM EST when the series hits the 2-mile, 10-turn Summit Point circuit.

Each event includes qualifying and 2 races (just like the real Spec MX-5 Challenge) and are live-streamed by SYMtv on the Winding Road Magazine YouTube channel.

Make sure you set an alarm and clear your schedule for the live-broadcast next Wednesday March 27 at 8:20 PM EST.  Missed Round 1?  No problem, you can check it out here – https://youtu.be/Y-JL3yKOhVE.

What is the Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge?

We introduced the Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge Series to compliment the actual Spec MX-5 Challenge Series where amatuer driver’s have the opportunity to compete in professionally prepared race cars on North America’s most challenging circuits for a chance at the over $150,000 in scholarship prize money.round2b

The 2019 Spec MX-5 Challenge Championship winner will receive a scholarship to run the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BF Goodrich in 2020.

The virtual version of the Challenge series offers sim-racers a similar incentive and the 2019 SimRacing Challenge Championship winner will receive a driver development test in an Spec MX-5 Challenge car at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin TX.

This is the 2nd of 10 regular season events, culminating in the series championship event at Road Atlanta in October.  For the complete schedule and more information on the Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge Series go to https://specmx-5.com/simracing-challenge-faq/
