The East Series of the Spec MX-5 Challenge is approaching the start of the 2019 season, with an adjustment to the 2019 calendar and just a limited number seats still available. In all, more than $120,000 in prizes are available in the second year of the Challenge.
The schedule is as impressive as can be, opening at a club racing favorite on the east coast, Summit Point Motorsports Park, before a run of four consecutive world-class sports car tracks in Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Road Atlanta, Sebring International Raceway, and Watkins Glen International. All five events, each doubleheaders for regular season points, are Sports Car Club of America Regional race weekends.
The original calendar included Virginia International Raceway as the season opener, but that event was replaced with the Mid-Ohio date later in the year.
As in 2018, the season will end at Road Atlanta’s American Road Race of Champions (ARRC), with a Championship doubleheader for those who qualify.
Again for 2019, the Spec MX-5 Challenge will offer a full arrive & drive package to racers including a race car, transport, prep, setup, mechanical repair, tires, fuel, fluids, mechanical services and entry fees. The cost of these services for the regular season will be $45,000. New for this season is an option to purchase a car for $29,700 which includes a $5,000 season credit as well as reducing the season cost to $35,000.
The East Series still has a select number of spots available for the full season arrive-and-drive package – the most convenient way to make a foray into professional racing. Inquiries can be sent to [email protected].
