Over 40 of the best Sim-Racers are set to go head to head at the inaugural Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge event!
In 2018, the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series was established as the pro racing championship for NC-generation (2006-2014) Mazda MX-5s. The series provides an opportunity for amateur drivers with pro racing aspirations to compete in professionally prepared race cars on some of North America’s most challenging circuits for a chance at the over $150,000 in scholarship prize money up for grabs in 2019. The 2019 Championship winner will receive a scholarship to run the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BF Goodrich in 2020. In an effort to expand our reach even further, we’ve introduced the Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge Series. With several prominent motorsports organizations and even vehicle manufacturers turning to Virtual Motorsports as a viable path for introducing both amateur and professional enthusiasts to their programs and products, the Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge was conceived to bridge the gap between virtual and reality in motorsports.
Wednesday, February 27, will see the kick off of the 2019 Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge season at one of the east coast’s most challenging tracks, VIRginia International Raceway. Over 40 of the most accomplished virtual racers vie for the chance to experience a driver development test in a real Spec MX-5 race car at the daunting Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
All races this season will be live-streamed by SYMtv and hosted on the Winding Road Magazine YouTube channel.
Each event includes qualifying and 2 races (just like the real Spec MX-5 Challenge). Bookmark this link for Round 1 at VIR: https://youtu.be/Y-JL3yKOhVE. We start with qualifying at 8:20 PM EST…don’t miss it!
This is the first of 10 regular season events, culminating in the series championship event at Road Atlanta in October. For the complete schedule and more information on the Spec MX-5 SimRacing Challenge Series, visit https://specmx-5.com/simracing-challenge-faq/
