In 2018, Spec MX-5 Challenge will be running Virginia International Raceway twice in its eastern region series. VIR is a driver favorite for a number of reasons, including:
- complex, twisty layout
- low-speed and high-speed corners
- long straights that set up multiple passing opportunities
- beautiful facility
- high quality track surface
Take a ride around the track, with 2016 Global MX-5 Cup rookie-of-the-year Mark Drennan:

Spec MX-5 Challenge will run VIR in NC generation Spec MX-5 race cars rather than the ND generation Global MX-5 Cup cars used in this video, but Spec MX-5 pace should only be a few seconds off this. Spec MX-5 gives drivers the chance to win a $100,000 scholarship to Global MX-5 Cup, so the kind of racing above is what you’re shooting for in both series.
